Bradford Gen Z Art Competition Winners Announced: Discover Amazing Young Talent! (2026)

Bold statement: Bradford’s Gen Z artists just proved that the future of local art is bright, vibrant, and brimming with fresh ideas. But here’s where it gets controversial... do these winning works push the boundaries of convention enough, or do they push the audience to take a closer, more critical look at how we define artistry?

Bradford District Museums and Galleries has announced the winners of the Gen Z art competition, unveiled alongside the opening of a new exhibition featuring their pieces. The contest was open to entrants aged 16 to 25 who live, work, or study in Bradford.

Judge Atiyya Mirza praised the trio of winners—Juna Tu (16), Van Garon (20), and Haleema Aziz (25)—for delivering work of exceptional quality with compelling and imaginative concepts.

The winning works will be on display at Bradford Industrial Museum through 8 March. A Bradford Council spokesperson reflected on the moment, noting that as Bradford’s year as UK City of Culture winds down, the bright future of art created by its young residents is evident.

Category results:
- 16–18 age group: Juna Tu won with Faces of Light, an acrylic-on-canvas piece celebrated for its striking light effects by judge Ruth Fettis, a local printmaker.
- 19–21 age group: Van Garon earned top honors with Colt, an entry that included a stop-motion character named Soloman Vanguard and a poster titled The Revenant Program.
- 22–25 age group: Haleema Aziz claimed the prize with a series of paintings that explore cohesive thematic threads across several works.

Ms. Mirza commented on the winners, noting that Juna Tu, Van Garon, and Haleema Aziz demonstrated exceptional quality and thought-provoking, concept-driven work. She highlighted their skill, talent, and the imaginative visualization at play.

If you’re interested in supporting local young artists or seeking fresh perspectives in Bradford’s art scene, this exhibition offers a timely snapshot of the community’s emerging voices.

What’s your take: Do you think competitions like Gen Z Art effectively spotlight new talent, or do they risk favoring trend-driven pieces over enduring craftsmanship? Share your thoughts in the comments.
