A heartwarming initiative is taking place this Christmas, and it's a story that deserves to be told. A Somerset chef is on a mission to ensure no one goes hungry or feels alone during the festive season.
Caz Goddard, a chef from Kewstoke, has embarked on a noble journey to feed and support her community in north Somerset. Since 2020, she's been working tirelessly to bring some Christmas cheer to those who need it most.
This year, Caz and her team of dedicated volunteers aim to prepare and deliver an incredible 500 meals on December 23rd. That's double the number of dinners they served in 2024! With the help of 15 volunteers, they plan to spread joy and warmth to vulnerable individuals across the region.
Speaking to BBC Bristol Radio, Caz shared a powerful message: "If you're feeling lonely or facing challenges, please reach out. We're here to help." Her catering business has become a platform for giving back, especially during the holidays.
But here's where it gets controversial... Caz's journey began during the pandemic, a time when many people felt isolated and vulnerable. She noticed the stark contrast between lavish Christmas displays and the reality of homelessness, which inspired her to take action. "I wanted to change my perspective and support others during Christmas," she explained.
And this is the part most people miss... Caz started small, preparing 50 meals alone during the festive season in 2020. Her efforts have grown exponentially since then, and now she's leading a team to make a real impact.
This weekend, Caz and her team will begin the laborious task of making Yorkshire puddings, which will be frozen and incorporated into the festive meals. "We go all out," she says, "and then they get a goodies bag too!"
The festival bundles will be distributed to women escaping domestic violence and individuals in homeless shelters. For Caz, Christmas has taken on a new meaning in recent years. "We're all just one step away from a difficult situation," she reflects. "Whether it's mental health struggles or financial woes, we should all look out for one another."
So, as we approach Christmas, let's remember the spirit of giving and supporting those in need. Caz Goddard's initiative is a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. What do you think? Is this a cause worth celebrating? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
