In an exclusive revelation, the popular soap opera Coronation Street is on the verge of a significant upheaval as Carl Webster's fate hangs in the balance, particularly with a collaborative episode featuring Emmerdale approaching. This highly anticipated crossover promises to be explosive, blending the storylines of both series for a special one-night event in the New Year.
Jonathan Howard, who portrays Carl, has hinted at dire repercussions for his character. Carl has been embroiled in a web of deceit, keeping numerous secrets from those closest to him. His partner, Abi Webster, remains blissfully unaware of his affair with James Bailey, although recent interactions have raised her suspicions regarding Carl's commitment to their relationship.
Moreover, Tyrone Dobbs is yet to learn that Carl played a pivotal role in the horrifying accident he experienced back in September. With so many unresolved issues and impending conflicts, it's hardly surprising that Carl is contemplating a hasty escape back to Germany.
During an exclusive interview at the premiere of Corriedale, Jonathan expressed his excitement about being part of this monumental crossover event. He shared, "I believe the outcome for Carl is not looking good. I’m uncertain if he will make it through this ordeal."
Reflecting on his journey, he mentioned, "It was a pleasure to be invited to participate in this project. Ever since I was a child, I hoped to see a crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale. I’ve dreamt about it for 25 years! It seems that manifestation takes time, but it truly works!"
Jonathan went on to emphasize that the storyline involving Carl and Abi is reaching its peak, especially with the upcoming wedding of Debbie and Ronnie, hinting at a significant climax that viewers can expect.
The show's producers have recently disclosed that Corriedale will center around a catastrophic multi-vehicle crash, bringing together characters from both soaps. Many of the characters from Coronation Street will be returning from Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding when this calamity strikes.
When asked whether Carl's plans to leave might result in his permanent exit from the show—even if he survives—the actor teased, "Perhaps, yes! With Carl, there’s always a possibility he may decide to leave at any moment. He’s still navigating his path. Germany offers a comforting escape, especially during this festive season with its beautiful Christmas markets, even though we missed Oktoberfest!"
Mark your calendars: Corriedale is set to air on Monday, January 5, at 8 PM on ITV1, and it will also be available for streaming on ITVX.
