A Will Ferrell-led costume from the 2003 Christmas comedy Elf has sold for over £239,000 at auction. The piece, a green and yellow ensemble worn by Buddy the Elf in a scene where he frantically presses every button in a New York elevator, was part of a sale organized by Propstore, a Hertfordshire-based auction house. They had estimated the outfit could fetch up to £200,000, making the final price a notable result.
This Elf costume came directly from the film’s producer Jon Berg’s collection, according to Propstore. The auction house emphasized the item’s strong provenance, noting that only a handful of costumes were believed to have been created for the film, which adds to its appeal as a cherished piece of Christmas movie history.
In the same sale, a fedora used in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom—filmed at Elstree Studios—sold for £327,600, with 21 bids recorded on that item.
Additionally, anticipation surrounds the sale of Star Wars’ Boba Fett’s original blaster prop from The Empire Strikes Back, expected to fetch between £350,000 and £700,000 on Saturday.
The London auction, featuring a variety of costumes and props from different films and television series, runs through Sunday.
