I snagged my Economy Light ticket a mere three weeks before departure for a steal at €205. Compared to the Lufthansa Group or a direct Air Serbia flight, this was a no-brainer. And here's the kicker: LOT's seat selection policy is a game-changer. While you pay for your initial choice, once online check-in opens, you can freely switch seats – even to those coveted priority rows – as many times as you like, completely free! This flexibility proved invaluable during my journey.
Smooth Sailing (or Should I Say Flying?) Through Belgrade and Warsaw
My adventure began at Belgrade Airport, where I breezed through security and passport control in a surprisingly quick 15 minutes, despite the bustling crowds. My first leg, a LOT flight to Warsaw on a sleek Boeing 737 MAX adorned in the special Independence livery, was a pleasant surprise. Landing in Warsaw was punctual, but the transfer process had a slight snag. Unlike Munich, where transfers are seamless, Warsaw requires an additional security check. While LOT excels in many areas, connectivity is where they fall behind the Lufthansa Group. Neither the MAX nor the Embraer offered Wi-Fi, a feature Lufthansa Group airlines provide, even if it's just free messaging.
Return Journey: A Brussels Security Surprise
My return trip from Brussels started smoothly with self-check-in kiosks, but security turned into a 40-minute ordeal, with most passengers, including myself, subjected to additional screening and bag checks. This was a first for me at Brussels Airport, where security is usually a breeze.
Warsaw's Charm and a Pleasant Surprise
The return flight to Warsaw on an Embraer E175 was comfortable, with the same amenities as before. The crew was friendly, and the service was even better than the outbound flights, with a second pastry as a welcome surprise. This time, arriving from a Schengen country meant no additional security check in Warsaw, allowing me to explore the terminal.
