Imagine receiving a bonus of £175 simply by switching your bank account! This is exactly what Nationwide is offering to its eligible members across the UK, but there are specific criteria that you must meet to take advantage of this enticing offer.
Nationwide, a well-known building society with millions of members, has rolled out an exciting incentive for those who open or switch to a FlexDirect, FlexAccount, or FlexPlus account. To be eligible for this cash bonus, customers need to transfer their banking from another provider to one of these accounts with Nationwide.
But here’s where it gets interesting: applicants must also set up two active Direct Debits from their old account and complete the switch using the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). This entire process needs to be wrapped up within 28 days to qualify for the bonus. It’s crucial to act swiftly!
After applying, customers are required to deposit at least £1,000 into the new account and make at least one debit card purchase within the following 31 days. Once all the conditions have been fulfilled, Nationwide assures that the £175 will be credited to the switched account within ten days.
The society has provided clarity on some important points: "The account must be open when we make the payment. If you're switching into a joint account, only one person will receive the £175 payment, which will appear in your statement as 'Switching Offer.'"
However, there are exceptions to keep in mind. If you have already taken advantage of a nationwide current account switching bonus since 2021, you may not be eligible for this offer—unless you previously claimed the bonus on a sole account and are now switching to a joint account that hasn’t received an offer before, or the other way around.
When you decide to apply for a Nationwide account, you’ll be prompted to indicate whether you wish to transfer from your current bank. To initiate this process, you will need to provide details of your existing account and choose a date for the switch. During the first six days while the transfer is being processed, you should continue using your current account and card as usual.
Nationwide has made this transition easier by stating, "We will handle the request for all your payment arrangements from your former bank, including Direct Debits and standing orders, to seamlessly transfer them to your new account. There's no additional action needed from your side."
On the seventh day, the switch will be finalized. All your Direct Debits, standing orders, and any remaining balance from your previous account will be migrated over to your new Nationwide account. Your old bank will deactivate your card and close your account, while your new Nationwide card will be ready for use.
It’s worth noting that any incoming payments, such as salary or pension deposits, will automatically redirect to your new account. Nevertheless, it's a good practice to inform your employer and pension providers of your new bank details to avoid any disruptions.
