WiiM Expands Its Wireless Speaker Lineup with the Slimmer Sound Lite
Wireless audio continues to dominate homes, and WiiM is back with a follow-up to its debut speaker from May. Introducing the WiiM Sound Lite.
Specs Worth Highlighting
The Sound Lite pairs a custom 4-inch long-throw woofer with two 1-inch silk-dome tweeters, delivering what WiiM describes as rich, room-filling sound with support for up to 24-bit/192 kHz playback and a 100W peak output.
Those specs mirror, in many ways, the original Sound. The notable difference is the removal of the touchscreen, replaced by a broader array of connectivity and control options that boost this model’s versatility.
Connectivity and control come standard with Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3, plus a 100 Mbps Ethernet port for wired reliability. The speaker can stream from Google Cast, Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz Connect, Alexa Cast, DLNA, Roon, and LNS. A major value proposition, according to WiiM, is its open-platform approach.
In the WiiM Home App, integrators and homeowners gain whole-home management, EQ customization, RoomFit room correction, smart presets, multi-room grouping, and universal search across sources.
WiiM and the Wireless Audio Ecosystem
Finished in White and Black, the Sound Lite marks WiiM’s second foray into its smart speaker lineup. Before this, the company drew considerable attention for the performance of its streaming amplifiers.
The Sound Lite widens the ecosystem by functioning as a standalone speaker or as a center or surround speaker in a 5.1 home theater setup. WiiM also offers its own subwoofer for those who want to stay within the same ecosystem.
With its compact size and solid sound, WiiM’s devices have attracted notice, and the company’s expansion toward full-home wireless audio has outlets already placing it in the same breath as Sonos, the long-time leader in wireless multiroom audio for custom installations.
Whether WiiM can close the gap with Sonos depends on market dynamics this year, and whether the two brands carve out clearly distinct target audiences. A telling sign will be whether WiiM begins integrating with control systems like Crestron Home.
Pricing and Availability
Priced at $229 with broad streaming support and room correction, the Sound Lite offers a compelling feature set for today’s speakers.
Its focus on wireless multiroom audio aligns with a growing homeowner desire to listen to music anywhere in the home with minimal setup and easy access.
For integrators eager to test one, availability is slated for Christmas, December 25.
